Pet Allergies: Don’t Let Them Stop You!

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

Just because you have pet allergies doesn’t mean you can’t buy your kids that puppy they’ve been begging for. Sometimes people develop allergies as they get older, and the prospect of being forced to give away a beloved companion you’ve had for years isn’t exactly attractive. Don’t fret! There are steps you can take and allergy control products to you to reduce the effects of pet allergens and many ways to minimize their presence in your home. All it takes are a few targeted allergy control products and some simple rules to help you live comfortably with your furry friends for years to come.

Dander is the key culprit when it comes to pet allergies, but there are simple changes you can make around your house that can greatly reduce your exposure to your pet’s dander. Vacuuming your house as often as you can is the most obvious step. Pet dander loves carpet. There are hundreds of thousands of tiny fibers it can hide in and hang onto. When you’re vacuuming your carpet regularly, you don’t give the dander a chance to get settled in, and if you’re using a vacuum with a HEPA filter, you’re cleaning your air at the same time. If you have hardwood floors you know how pet hair can gather in corners and under couches like tumbleweed. These should be vacuumed often as well.

Head dander off early by bathing your pet at least once a week. You can never eliminate your pet’s dander altogether– it’s like skin cells; it will always be there. But you can reduce the buildup on Fido’s fur with frequent coat care. Just make sure you use the right shampoo so that you don’t dry out your pet’s skin. Brushing is also important, but should be done outside, otherwise all the dander you brush off will fly into the air inside your house. There are also allergy relief products that you can smooth onto the coat that will cut down on the dander buildup. Ask a vet for recommendations.

It’s hard to designate a specific area for your pet, particularly if you have a cat. People think of their pets as members of the family, and you wouldn’t confine Aunt Marge to the laundry room, would you? Since most pets have the run of the house, it might be easier to designate one pet-free room. Your bedroom is a great option for this since it’s where you sleep and where your clothes are. If your pet is never allowed in your room it’s going to be harder for the allergens to get there, which will make sleeping allergy free a whole lot easier. Unfortunately, allergens are sneaky and like to travel through the air. But you can trap allergens and strip them out of the air is with an air purifier. And air purifiers don’t just trap pet allergens. They’ll clean other types of allergens and impurities from the air as well. You’ll feel better knowing that you’re not the only one in your house benefiting from cleaner air.

Pet allergies
don’t have to keep you from owning a pet. Today there is a whole world of pet allergy relief products and tricks that make living with your best friend not only tolerable, but downright pleasant. For more tips on enjoying your pet, even with allergies, learn more at the ASPCA.

Allergy Control Products: What a Difference a Purifier Makes!

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Air conditioners pump cool air into your house in the summer, and a furnace keeps your rooms warm in the winter. While we’re eternally grateful to sleep coolly in the middle of July, and don’t have to wear our coats at the Thanksgiving dinner table, these systems tend to trap allergens inside your home. Allergy control products, like air purifiers, are designed to reduce allergens in the home and are an excellent source of allergy relief for allergy and asthma sufferers.

The IQAir HealthPro Compact from Douglas Allergy Relief is a Swiss designed and manufactured purifier that features the same Ultra High-Performance Particle Control for allergy sufferers as the rest of the HealthPro series, but in a smaller design. Equipped to remove particle air pollutants from indoor air, HealthPro allergy control products keep home atmospheres comfortable and free of common in air pollutants like:

Pollen – Though created by trees and flower outdoors, pollen particles find there way into your home everytime a door or window is opened.

Mold and mildew – Damp areas like basements, kitchens and showers are usual breeding grounds for mold and mildew to multiple.

Animal Dander – The family pet is the (adorable) allergy irritant for those sensitive to dander.

Home air purifiers are only a collection of the many allergy control products from Douglas Allergy Relief that are designed to make your life easier and more enjoyable.

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

There are thousands of types of mold, and to an allergy suffer, any type of mold army can cause severe asthma, rashes, and other conditions. Because of this, even the possibility of mold must be kept far away from an allergy sufferer’s house. The makers of the SEBO Duo Carpet Cleaning System know that damp carpets promote mold growth, so their carpet cleaning system allows you to deeply clean your carpet without getting it wet!

Step 1 in this cleaning system is to spread the Duo-P powder over your carpet, pushing it into the fibers with the Brush Machine, allowing the powder to penetrate the deepest crevices of your carpeting. Mold is an enemy, but with a SEBO Duo Carpet Cleaning System from your allergy relief supply store, Douglas Allergy Relief Source, it doesn’t have a chance in your home.

Vacuums and Dehumidifiers: If it’s broken, we can fix it!

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

If you so choose (and we highly recommend it!), any order that you place with Douglas Allergy Relief will be unpacked, assembled, and tested by us, before we send the product on its happy way to you. Our dedication to service allows us to make sure that your allergy relief product is performing in tip-top shape before you receive it.

Yet, sometimes even after you receive an item that works perfectly, it may still have a quirk that needs to be worked out later on, or a part that needs to be replaced. You know not to worry, though, because you made your purchase from Douglas Allergy Relief, and with that purchase comes the support of the Douglas Allergy Relief Service Center. Our service center provides repair work for every product our company sells and is an authorized warranty center for over 25 brands.

If you are wondering if your vacuum, dehumidifier, or other item needs a check-up, the highly trained technicians at the Douglas Allergy Relief Service Center are ready and able to help. But, before sending us your dehumidifier or vacuum, we’d like to share some common issues that can be easily fixed at home:

Problem: Dehumidifier fills up to quickly.

Solution: If the container fills up quickly, your dehumidifier is doing exactly what its supposed to do. But, if the container is filling up too quickly, many days in a row, you might want to locate the source of the humidity (an unsealed window?), and see if you if you can correct the problem at the source.

Problem: Vacuum no longer picks up dirt.

Solution: A common vacuum problem is clogging. If the unit no longer picks up dirt and dust, chances are it is clogged. This is normally not a parts problem. To fix it, take the front assembly off, then clean out all agitators and the housing where the dirt makes its way upwards through the unit.  This is easy to do, and won’t take a great deal of time.

Still think your allergy relief product’s problem is a bit more complex? We’re ready for the challenge. Contact the Douglas Allergy Relief Service Center today!

What’s that smell? Allersearch ODRX: Odor Eliminator to the rescue!

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Let’s be honest: plenty of things, literally, stink. Your son’s shoes and shin-guards after soccer practice? The dog doesn’t even want to come near them. The kitty litter box that should have been emptied a day earlier is making the entire basement a “plug your nose and hold your breath” region.

Douglas Allergy Relief Source knows that while perfumes and fragrances just covers odors, you want them removed. Plus, perfumes and fragrances can irritate allergy sufferers– you need an allergy-free product that neutralizes odors. Because of this, we have found Allersearch ODRX: Odor Eliminator. This heavy-duty spray eliminates tough odors at their source. Allersearch ODRX can be safely used as a room deodorizer, sprayed directly onto the surface to be treated, in solution form to wipe down surfaces, or added to the laundry. It is extremely effective at neutralizing, absorbing and eliminating odors caused by pets, cooking, garbage, food, mildew, basements, storage areas, diapers, and more, all around your home.

For allergy sufferers, and others, looking for a safe, effective allergy product that does not mask odors or contain any irritating perfumes or fragrances, Allersearch ODRX Odor Eliminator won’t let any room in your house become the “plug your nose” zone.

Cold Water for Your Laundry, Not Your Showers

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

If you come from a family of 6, or any family with members that like to take very long showers, you know that warm water is a hot commodity! So, if you suffer from allergies, wasting the hot water on laundry can be both irritating to shower-takers, and expensive to budget-keepers of the household!

Though allergists normally advise washing items at 140 degrees or higher to remove allergens, Allersearch Allergen Wash detergent safely removes allergens, like pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold and mildew at any water temperature. By washing clothes and bedding in cold water, you’ll save money and energy on every load, while protecting your washables too. Developing new allergy control methods can alleviate your allergies and ease your daily routine by making you feel better– a good allergy-control detergent can really help! Allersearch Allergen Wash detergent contains ACARIL, a well-known enemy of allergens. Unlike some other allergy control detergents, Allersearch products are free of perfumes, dyes and other irritants so they are good for simply sensitive skin as well as allergy sufferers.

Like many products at Douglas Allergy Source, Allersearch Allergen Wash detergent is ideal for people with dust and dust mite allergies, pet allergies, pollen allergies, mold allergies, and others simply wanting a safer, healthier home.

Reduce Airborne Allergens With A HEPA Air Purifier

Thursday, September 3rd, 2009

Allergy sufferers know that they need to keep their homes clean in order to cut down on allergens that can settle on furniture and in carpets. Regular vacuuming and dusting is essential to keeping pet dander and dust mites in check. You might already be using some of the excellent allergy reducing cleaning products that Douglas has to offer. But there is one vital part of your hope you might be missing: are you cleaning your air?

A HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arresting) Air Purifier is a crucial component in keeping any home allergy free and healthier overall. While your vacuums and dust rags take care of the more obvious allergens, in order to eliminate airborne allergens like pollen, mold spores or second hand smoke, you need an air purifier. That’s where Douglas can help.

Our HEPA Air Purifiers trap microscopic dust and allergens in state-of-the-art filters, removing them from the air you breathe and reducing your risk of household allergies. When air is forced through the filter, the larger allergens particles cannot pass and stick to the fibers. All you end up breathing is clean, fresh air that is better for you and your family.

HEPA Air Purifiers are not only good for your lungs, they’re good for the environment, and produce no harmful byproducts. When you buy your HEPA Air Purifier from Douglas you can conveniently pick up your replacement filters- just one more way Douglas provides you with easy allergy relief.
